The project will also construct a new Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) facility to connect this station to the 69kV switch yards in neighboring stations in Hamilton and Trenton. Considered state-of-the-art, a GIS is encapsulated by compact metal that can be safely operated in confined spaces, allowing for increased voltage and less maintenance on a smaller footprint. The GIS also offers design flexibility to allow the building to blend with the existing neighborhood. All construction work will be completed inside the property of the station and within the transmission right-of-way.Īs safety is PSE&G’s first priority, the utility is committed to working with the Hamilton Township Police Department to minimize any traffic concerns or inconvenience to the public during construction. There are no planned electric service outages caused by this work. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2020 and in service by winter 2022 with landscaping and final restoration completed by the spring of the following year. If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please call the Whitehorse Switching Station Project information line at 1-80. On or about Saturday, March 28, 2020, PSE&G and its contractors will utilize helicopter crews to help install the MTB transmission line from the transmission structure near University Drive to the transmission structure on the southbound side of Interstate 295.
